A Wonderful Week teaching Yoga in Turkey
Yoga can be practised anywhere. BKS Iyengar used to lay his mat out in a corridor because he had nowhere else – the dimensions of a mat and a little space at the sides is all that is needed.
Here in our customised yoga space with views out over the river towards the distant mountains we practised in the open air, in the freshness of the morning before the heat of the day. Could we practise yoga in such a beautiful place with such a magnificent view to distract us? Would a narrow airless corridor have been more conducive to concentration and serious engagement? Or being lesser yogis would it have made us despondent and yearn for something to sooth and seduce our deprived senses? As it happened we managed well enough.
